What we do

Our Story

Introduction

The HOUSES OF HOPE AFRICA (HOHA) is an organization that provides a safe haven for children affected by HIV/AIDS, abuse, and poverty. These children are either orphaned or abandoned, with no safe place to call home. Social workers, police officers, and community members often bring these children to HOHA homes, which are built on church grounds and affiliated with the local church. This ensures that the children have a built-in community of people who care for them. Each congregation contributes to meeting the children’s physical needs and providing spiritual nourishment.

History and Partnerships

The HOHA initiative was born out of a vision to see African churches caring for the growing number of AIDS orphans. African Leadership Development (ALD) partnered with World Orphans to establish the first orphan homes in Temba, South Africa. Since then, ALD has completed another HOHA home in Mamelodi, South Africa, and a third home in Whunga, Zimbabwe. The need in Whunga has grown so much that there are now three homes on the same property. In 2021, ALD partnered with new friends in Maputo, Mozambique, to help approximately 50 orphans living in different homes. Currently, multiple homes are being built on a 2-acre property in Mozambique to accommodate these children.

Mission and Impact

The mission of HOHA is to provide a safe and loving environment for children who have been affected by HIV/AIDS, abuse, and poverty. By partnering with local churches, HOHA ensures that these children have a strong support system and a sense of belonging. The organization provides for the children’s physical needs, such as food, clothing, and shelter, and also offers spiritual nourishment through the local church community. The impact of HOHA can be seen in the lives of the children who have been given a second chance at a better life.

How to Get Involved

There are several ways to get involved with HOHA and support their mission. You can donate to help provide for the children’s physical needs, sponsor a child, or even volunteer at a HOHA home. Additionally, spreading awareness about the organization and its mission can help bring more support and resources to help these children in need. To learn more about HOHA and how you can get involved, visit their website or contact them directly.
